Helping Hands

In the sensationalised world of free-to-air television, mostly contrived at best or outright garbage at worst, Helping Hands is an absolute breath of fresh air. Richard and the team at Australian TV & Media Group work hard to deliver a weekly sho ...read more

I Survived COVID

I survived COVID, and so will 99.98% of Australians. These are my predictions based on the Australian COVID death rates for the last two years and current projections. Believe me, Australia’s 0.02% death rate is better than most of the world. We have ...read more

Jordan Peterson is Back

The New York Times says that Jordan Peterson is “a patriarchal pseudointellectual riding his devilish dark horse into stardom and corrupting everybody in his path, at best an idiot fraud and at worst the most dangerous thinker in the West”. From the ...read more

Celebrating Mothers

We celebrate Mothers next Sunday, 10 May 2020, but do we really celebrate motherhood all year round? Sadly, the reverse is the case. Mothering is regularly maligned and belittled in mainstream media. Oftentimes, mothers are mocked for their sacrifici ...read more

Bluey Goes Global

If you haven’t heard about Bluey, you have been “living under a rock” as Paul Keating used to say. The cartoon blue heeler that Australia has already fallen in love with is now going out to a global audience, thanks to a distribution deal between the ...read more

Tipping Point

I have always felt that our society is at a tipping point when it comes to the restoration of fatherhood in our society. Part of that is my innate tendency to optimism. For me the glass is always half full. I can remember sharing as the conference or ...read more

The Technology Trap

The phrase ‘I am Spartacus!’ was taken from the 1960 film Spartacus by Stanley Kubrick. Historically, Spartacus was a slave who trained as a gladiator under oppressive Roman rule, and who led a slave rebellion in 73 BC. He amassed a large army of fel ...read more

Just a Man is my personal blog. I have a beautiful wife, Alison, who has put up with my imperfections for many years. My wife and I got married in 1975, so that is saying something.

My big goal is to keep falling in love with her every day, and mostly I succeed. I have five children who have more hair than me. Nine gorgeous grandchildren who run circles around me… and remind me of the exquisite words of Jesus, “Unless you become like little children, you will not enter the kingdom of Heaven.”

The good news is my grandchildren do not yet know my many foibles and they think I am fantastic. Please don’t tell them otherwise.
